Title I Distinguished Schools

 

(Columbus, GA)- The following MCSD schools have been identified as 2008-2009 Title I Distinguished Schools.  This recognition is authorized in Section 117 of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 200.  It includes monetary awards for qualifying schools.  Recognition is based on the number of consecutive years a school makes Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).  Schools that make AYP for three consecutive years receive a certificate of recognition.  Schools that make AYP for four or more years receive a certificate of recognition and a monetary award.  Seventy–five percent of the funds available for awards to Title I Distinguished Schools must be awarded to schools in the highest quartile based on poverty.  In Georgia, the percent of students eligible for free and reduced price meals is used to determine the poverty quartile.  Funds can be used only for instructional purposes, to provide monetary awards to employees and school-wide projects.
